Our outgrowers

A privilege and a shared mission

Gulifa is proud to work with 500 registered outgrowers around our washing station in Jimma Zone, who supply us with ripe red cherry. Each farmer has an outgrower partnership contract with Gulifa that sets out how we buy their cherry, how we reward quality and how we support their farm.

We see their success as our mission. Smallholder families grow most of Ethiopia's coffee, and we are privileged to help their farms become more productive, their coffee businesses more profitable and their lives more secure. When outgrowers pick only ripe cherry, renew old trees and care for their soil, the coffee is better, their income grows and their communities grow stronger. That is why our programme goes far beyond buying cherry.

Social responsibility

How Gulifa supports its outgrowers

Partnership contractsEvery registered outgrower has a written partnership contract with Gulifa: a fair, reliable buyer for their red cherry, season after season.
TrainingPractical training in selective picking, farm hygiene, pruning, stumping, shade and soil management, and post-harvest handling.
Annual incentives and bonusesOn top of the cherry price, outgrowers earn annual incentives and bonuses for every kilo they sell to Gulifa, so better coffee means better income.
Farm analysis and improvement planningOur team visits farms, analyses tree age, yield and quality, and agrees an improvement plan with each farmer, then supports them to carry it out.
Free seedlingsHigh-quality Arabica seedlings from the Gulifa nursery are given free to outgrowers to renew old trees and raise yields.
Quality and profitabilityWe promote outgrower coffee to buyers, pay for quality and help farmers earn more from every harvest, building long-term partnerships.

Seedling nursery project

Our coffee seedling nursery

Gulifa runs its own coffee seedling nursery in Jimma. Under shade netting, we raise healthy, high-quality Arabica seedlings for two purposes: to renew and expand our own farm, and to give our outgrowers free seedlings so they can replace old, low-yielding trees.

Seedlings are grown in pots, hardened under shade and handed out before the planting season, together with advice on planting, spacing and shade. Over time, this renewal raises yields and cup quality across the whole Gulifa supply.

For buyers

Why our outgrower programme matters to you

Trained farmers, renewed trees and quality bonuses mean more consistent cherry and better cups. Registered farms and recorded cherry intake give you the traceability and EUDR data you need. And your purchase supports real families in Jimma.

How many outgrowers supply Gulifa?
